When and Why do Animals Migrate?
Why do animals migrate? Some animals migrate to reach a breeding ground, others to search for suitable weather or temperature. Animals migrate because resources on Earth change: food and water availability, temperature, and safety from predators. These resources can change by location or disappear altogether. Animals will migrate to follow food that has moved on, to follow planting seasons, and to for a favorable climate. Animals migrate in search for resources that are essential to their survival.
When do animals migrate? Migration is usually done seasonally. Animals migration is ussually due to seasonal weather changes and feeding patterns, or mating and breeding patterns. Some animals don't seem to follow any pattern. This type of migration is called irruptive migrations. Irruptive migrations are generaly done by nomadic species that only move on when they have exhausted a food supply.
